Unusually this morning Harvey was fast asleep in his bed when I got down to the kitchen. He was snoring his little head off, of course I had to video him..
I love the look on his face when he wakes up...
After previously announcing that Nokia (Smart2go) Maps would be available from Sat, I see that the Nokia have updated their Mobile Search page to Nokia Search & Maps and that it contains a large button that says that Maps will be available from Monday 12th...
Just a little longer to wait...
I have found a couple more little issues during my use of Vox Mobile:
When I post from VM, my new post settings are set to 'Public' (default on my handset), but when they actually appear online they are set as 'Friends & Family' which is my default setting on vox.com. It would seem that this overrides the VM settings. To overcome I have currently set my online 'New Post' settings as 'Anyone',
Also worth mentionng is the difference in termonology as visibility is 'Public' on Vox Mobile but 'Anyone' on vox.com.
When taking a picture and selecting 'Add & Edit Post', when the 'New Post' screen appears, if you get a text message at this point or you don't touch it and the screensaver kicks in, it takes you to the Gallery screen instead (see image below) but still says 'New Post'. The new post is not present in the list until you exit and start the application again. (This issue doesnt seem to occur if you have VM running before you take the picture though).
Not major showstoppers, but I thought that I'd bring them to your attention ;-)
I have been playing around with Opera Mobile on my N73 the last few days and am really becoming to start to like it more than the standard S60 web browser.
The page rendering seems a lot cleaner than Nokia's offering which I have been using up till now. One thing that I have noticed is that I've not had any browser crashes or 'out of memory' error messages either.
The downside is that Opera comes at a price.. Will I get it after the trial ends? I'd like too but if i'm tied to this handset and don't have the opportunity to upgrade my phone, then no, it will be money wasted..
Anybody else been using Opera Mobile?
Hot news today is that Nokia is going to make available it's mapping application used in it's N95 free for download to all.
The product called smart2go will allow routing in over 150 countries and has support for turn-by-turn satellite navigation. With the facilitity to look up Points-of-Interest.
The application will be available for download from Saturday..
My site is all about my Mobile Life - my life through the lens of my Nokia N73. One thing that really has made this possible has been the release of Vox Mobile. After some patient waiting it has been released for S60 3rd Edition devices like my Nokia N-series mobile. Has it been worth the wait? Yes and No is the answer.
I love the idea of being able to post directly from my mobile where ever I am - the simplicity to share photos and videos and getting them online almost instantly is just awesome. Vox Mobile makes all of that that just a little easier.
For instance after taking a picture on my phone, the default Vox Mobile settings allow for a prompt to appear asking if you'd like to add the photo to Vox (This is also the case after creating a video or an audio file).
After a couple of clicks your media items are uploaded straight to Vox. It really is effortless.
It's all well and good just uploading media, but Vox Mobile also allows you to blog straight from your handset as well. Sadly this is when I found things weren't as straightforward as I'd hoped.
When creating a post the 'New Post' screen allows you to add a title, the main content, a media item, tags and to be able to set the visibility of the post on Vox. So far so good...
The problem lies in actually writing the main content of your post, in that you are restricted to seeing only 6 visible lines of content at one time. You can scroll up and down through the content of your post to make some amendments, but this is no easy task as using the up/down joystick will scroll up and down the 'New Post' screen, rather than the content in the 'Body' field. The only way to successfully navigate through a post is by using the left/right joystick to move a word at a time which can be frustrating to say the least in long posts.
Saving a Post and then going back to edit the item also has its issues as it results in line breaks being removed from your post. Having to reformat your post before uploading using the above method is no easy process..
A mobile application that does have an easier to use interface for writing lots of content is the gmail mobile application (see pictures below). Instead of trying to populate all your information into one screen, it opens a new window for writing the main body of your email giving you 9 clear lines of text entry. Perhaps something similar could be used within Vox Mobile?
Apart from that my only other feature request I'd like to see in Vox Mobile is the ability to add more than one media item to a post at a time....
Overall I think that Vox Mobile is good, I know that this is only the first incarnation of the product, and there are bound to be some bugs to iron out. Keep up the good work Vox! I look forward to future releases of Vox Mobile.
What have been your experiences of using Vox Mobile?
